Boat Survey: Kifanlo parametric analysis<\/p>\n

Presentation<\/h1>\n

Built in 1955 in Les Sables d’Olonne, the KIFANLO was classified as a historical monument in 1984. She is one of the 16 identical hull trawlers launched by the Batifort shipyard between 1945 and 1957. The Kifanlo is a tuna trawler made of wood with mixed propulsion. She is 16.37 metres long, with a tonnage of 27.51 tons, and is equipped with a 120 hp Poyaud engine. (more at https:\/\/oceam.org\/presentation-du-kifanlo<\/a>)<\/p>\n

Methodology<\/h1>\n

The work is done with Rhino and Grasshopper in order to develop a tailored tool for 3D analysis.<\/p>\n

Rhino Remeshing<\/h2>\n

First the 3D model is imported<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

The geometry is then remeshed using QuadMesh function.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

In Grasshopper we can import the hull as a mesh<\/p>\n

Then we can verify the proportion and the right dimension with a bounding box, we will also use this bounding box to create 3 axes X, Y, Z that will be useful to create our further sections.<\/p>\n

This is how sections are prepared. The longitudinal horizontal line taken from the cube is divided. The division is every 1 m<\/p>\n

Frames created are intersect with Mesh<\/p>\n

This slider allows us to refine the way we want the number of sections<\/p>\n

With this set, we define the axial line that will be used to compare both sides of the hull<\/p>\n

One the sections are made, it is interesting to project them on the XY plan (or any plan wished).<\/p>\n
