Shooting \/ Prise de vue<\/h3>\n

47 photographs were taken (18mm, F\/13) with the flash, at heights spanning from 10 cm to 1 m from the ground. The surrounding stabilisation boards were left, to help Photoscan rebuilding the geometry. The photo series was imported into Photoscan. <\/strong><\/p>\n

In Photoscan, the right menu is \u201cworkflow\/add photos\u201d and you should select all the shooting files. The first processing phase consists in aligning the photos, and you need to go back to \u201cworkflow \/align photos\u201d\u2026<\/strong><\/p>\n

Dans Photoscan, il faut aller dans le menu \u00ab\u00a0traitements \/ Ajouter des photos<\/strong>\u00a0\u00bb et sellectionner l\u2019ensemble des fichiers de la prise de vue. Once the calculation is done, the photos are positioned at the camera\u2019s place when the shooting happened, and a light point cloud briefly describes the geometry. <\/strong><\/p>\n

Once the calculation is done, the result is visible by clicking the \u201cdense cloud\u201d button. It is also possible to hide the cameras, to better detail the results, by clicking on the \u201cShow cameras\u201d button. <\/strong><\/p>\n

The resulting cloud is made of more than 16 million points. <\/strong><\/p>\n

The second step consists in creating a grid from a dense grid. After clicking on \u201cWorkflow\/build a grid\u201d, a menu suggests to choose between the type of surface, the data source and the number of faces. We keep the default choices and launch the calculation.<\/strong><\/p>\n

La deuxi\u00e8me \u00e9tape consiste \u00e0 cr\u00e9er un maillage d\u2019apr\u00e8s le maillage dense. Apr\u00e8s avoir cliqu\u00e9 dans le menu \u00ab\u00a0Traitements \/ Construire un maillage\u2026<\/strong>\u00a0\u00bb, une palette propose de choisir entre le type de surface, la source des donn\u00e9es et le nombre de faces. On conserve les choix par d\u00e9faut et on lance le calcul.<\/em><\/p>\n

This step is quicker than the previous one. The resulting grid, visible by clicking on the \u201ccolour-shaded\u201d<\/strong> button, is made of more than 3 million faces.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Producing a texture.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Cette \u00e9tape est plus rapide que la pr\u00e9c\u00e9dente. Le maillage obtenu ici, visible en cliquant sur le bouton \u00ab\u00a0Ombr\u00e9 en couleurs\u00a0\u00bb fait plus de 3 millions de faces.<\/em><\/p>\n

Producing a texture.\/ Produire une texture.<\/h3>\n

The last step consists in creating a texture. We go back to \u201cWorkflow\/building a texture\u201d. The question of texture will condition the rest of the work. In fact, the organisation of the pixels according to the grid will help, or not, the continuation of the operations, depending on what we want to produce. If the model remains a high definition model used to print boards, to create orthoviews for example, the question is less significant. If it a question of working on visual aspects to highlight pieces of information, or if it is about eventually creating a model working in real time, the most continuous texture possible will be needed, which will be then worked on with a drawing software.<\/strong><\/p>\n

La derni\u00e8re \u00e9tape consiste en la cr\u00e9ation de la texture. On retourne dans le menu \u00ab\u00a0Traitements\u00a0\/ Construire une texture\u2026\u00a0<\/strong>\u00bb. La question de la texture va conditionner la suite du travail. En effet, l\u2019organisation des pixels en fonction du maillage va faciliter ou non la suite des op\u00e9rations selon ce que l\u2019on cherche \u00e0 produire. Si le mod\u00e8le reste un mod\u00e8le haute d\u00e9finition servant \u00e0 l\u2019impression de planches, pour cr\u00e9er des orthovues<\/strong> par exemple, la question est moins pr\u00e9gnante. S\u2019il s\u2019agit de travailler les aspects visuels<\/strong> pour faire ressortir de l\u2019information, ou s\u2019il est question de cr\u00e9er \u00e0 terme un mod\u00e8le fonctionnant pour le temps r\u00e9el<\/strong>, il faudra d\u00e8s lors obtenir une texture la plus continue possible, que l\u2019on pourra ensuite retravailler avec un logiciel de dessin.<\/em><\/p>\n

Orthophoto<\/h4>\n

In this case, the orthophoto gives the result below. The subject being two orthogonal planes, the orthophoto will create a projection on only one of the planes. The other will be processed in projection, hence the impression of \u201crun-outs\u201d on the rock\u2019s face\u2019s texture. <\/strong><\/p>\n

Dans le cas pr\u00e9sent\u00e9 ici, l\u2019orthophoto donne le r\u00e9sultat ci-dessous. Le sujet se pr\u00e9sentant comme deux plans orthogonaux, l\u2019orthophoto va cr\u00e9er une projection sur l\u2019un des plans uniquement. L\u2019autre sera trait\u00e9 en projection d\u2019o\u00f9 l\u2019impression de \u00ab\u00a0coulures\u00a0\u00bb sur la texture de la face du rocher.<\/em><\/p>\n

Adaptative orthophoto \/ Orthophoto adaptative<\/h4>\n

Here, the unfolding works in a better way, and the panel is accurate. However, small textural blocks remain smashed. <\/strong><\/p>\n

Ici, le d\u00e9pliement fonctionne mieux, la paroie est conforme \u00e0 la r\u00e9alit\u00e9. Des petits blocs de textures restent cependant \u00e9clat\u00e9s.<\/em><\/p>\n

The rare darker points come from a modelisation problem and the texture cover, which will be easy to correct later. <\/strong><\/p>\n

Les quelques points plus fonc\u00e9s viennent d\u2019un probl\u00e8me de mod\u00e9lisation et du recouvrement de la texture, qu\u2019il sera assez facile de corriger par la suite.<\/em><\/p>\n

Generic \/ G\u00e9n\u00e9rique<\/h4>\n

The generic choice will break the texture into small fragments, with which it will be hard to work later. <\/strong><\/p>\n

The visual result is nonetheless very satisfactory, the flaws from the previous calculation are no longer visible, the pixels match the geometry in a better way. <\/strong><\/p>\n

Le r\u00e9sultat visuel est cependant tr\u00e8s satisfaisant, les d\u00e9fauts du pr\u00e9c\u00e9dent calcul ne sont plus visibles, les pixels collent au mieux \u00e0 la g\u00e9om\u00e9trie.<\/em><\/p>\n

Two parameters will then perform: the filling ratio of the image basis or, in other words, the number of pixels in the 4096×4096 (considered as a high-resolution texture) used to carry the information, and the model\u2019s pixel\/mm\u00b2 or cm\u00b2 ratio. In our case, the visual information gives little information on the engraving, and it mostly helps with the reading. However, in other cases, this aspect is paramount. <\/strong><\/p>\n

Deux param\u00e8tres vont jouer ensuite\u00a0: le taux de remplissage de la base image ou, exprim\u00e9 autrement, combien de pixel sur les 4096×4096<\/strong> (cons\u00e9d\u00e9r\u00e9 comme une texture en haute r\u00e9solution) sont utilis\u00e9s pour porter de l\u2019information, puis le ratio pixel \/ mm\u00b2 ou cm\u00b2 du mod\u00e8le. Dans notre cas, l\u2019information viselle renseigne peu sur la gravure, elle est surtout une aide \u00e0 la lecture. Mais dans d\u2019autres cas, cet aspect est fondamental.<\/em><\/p>\n

Spherical \/ Sph\u00e9rique<\/h4>\n

<\/p>\n

In the case of the spherical texture, the visual result is very interesting, and the filling ratio is optimum. However, the ulterior processing of the image is very complex, and perhaps impossible, given its distortion. <\/strong><\/p>\n

Dans le cas de la texture sph\u00e9rique, le r\u00e9sultat visuel est tr\u00e8s int\u00e9ressant et le taux de remplissage optimum, toutefois, l\u2019exploitation ult\u00e9rieure de l\u2019image est tr\u00e8s complexe, voir impossible, de fait de sa d\u00e9formation.<\/em><\/p>\n

The last step consists in the model\u2019s scaling. First, the grid\u2019s nails will be used. In the 3D screen, place a first point with \u201cright click\/create a mark\u201d, then place two others in such a way that it creates an orthonormal system. <\/strong><\/p>\n

La derni\u00e8re \u00e9tape consiste en la mise \u00e0 l\u2019\u00e9chelle du mod\u00e8le. Dans un premier temps, seront utilis\u00e9s les clous du carroyage. Dans la fen\u00eatre 3D placer un premier point avec \u00ab\u00a0Bouton Droit \/ Cr\u00e9er un rep\u00e8re<\/strong>\u00a0\u00bb, puis en placer deux autres de telle mani\u00e8re \u00e0 cr\u00e9er un rep\u00e8re orthonorm\u00e9.<\/em><\/p>\n

To create a scale bar, you need to select two points and click \u201cright click\/create a scale bar\u201d, and repeat the operation for the other point. <\/strong><\/p>\n

To fill in the points\u2019 coordinates, activate the \u201creference\u201d tab to show the details of points and markers. <\/strong><\/p>\n

On the line of points, we give numbers to X and Y, corresponding with the markers. In the scale bar, we indicate the right distance. We should not forget to update afterwards. <\/strong><\/p>\n

Dans la ligne des points, on donne des valeurs en X et Y correspondant au rep\u00e8re, puis dans la barre d\u2019\u00e9chelle, on indique la bonne distance. Il faut ensuite penser \u00e0 Mettre \u00e0 jour.<\/em><\/p>\n
